Around two-thirds of Hungary’s estimated 3,454,000 pay-TV homes now receive digital services.
Data published by the regulator NMHH shows that as of the end of August the number of cable and IPTV homes in the country, based on the eight major players, stood at 2,162,855, of which 1,237,023 were digital.
Meanwhile, the number of DTH homes, based on the three major players, stood at 903,203 and there were also 111,491 subscribers to the MinDig TV Extra pay-DTT service. The 10 largest providers of pay-TV services, covering around 92% of the market, claimed a total of 3,177,449 subscribers.
The three leading pay-TV operators UPC, Telekom and Digi accounted for the lion’s share of the market, claiming 26.8%, 25.2% and 24.4% respectively. Invitel, the next largest player, accounted for only 4.3%.
Separately, BBJ reports that Invitel will bring 100Mbps broadband internet access to an around 160,000 more homes by the end of the year.
This, said its deputy CEO Marianne Langsteiner, would bring the total to over 600,000.
Invitel’s services are used by around 1.5 million homes and earlier this year the company embarked on a €30 million expansion programme.
