The Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) plans to invest R276 billion (€3.82 billion) until 2025 in order to eliminate the digital divide in the country.
Speaking at the SatComRus-2015 conference and quoted by TDaily, Yuri Prokhorov, its general director added that it would by that date place an order for seven satellites. This would increase the total number in geostationary orbit by half.
Of the R276 billion investment, R98 billion will be obtained from the budget and R178 billion from non-budgetary sources.
Prokhorov presented delegates at the conference a draft of a federal target programme for the development of communication satellites in period 2017-2015.
It was produced by the RSCC under the leadership of the Federal Communication Agency and now awaits approval by relevant departments before being submitted to the government.
