TERN launches Insight, UltraHD factual entertainment channel

October 3, 2015 09.07 Europe/London By by ROBERT BRIEL, MIPCOM2015, CANNES

maxresdefaultWATCH VIDEO. This Monday, October 5, TERN (Television Entertainment Reality Network) is launching Insight, an UltaHD/4K factual entertainment channel on Astra.

The new channel will launch during a special event at this year’s MIPCOM in Cannes and will be available as a free-to-air service on Astra at 19.2 degrees East. Insight is the fourth Ultra HD channel on this orbital position, which already houses Pearl.tv UHD, UHD1 by Astra / HD+ and Fashion 4k. The news was first reported by Broadband TV News on September 10.

Insight will reach around 60 million homes in Europe and India, in partnership with satellite operator SES, India’s iTV Network, Russia’s Tricolor DTH platform, and broadcast facilities company United4All.

TERN is headquartered in Hilversum, the Netherlands, but set up with capital from General Satellite in St Petersburg, Russia.

The new linear and nonlinear channel will feature original UltraHD content, co-created alongside industry-leading production houses including Zodiak Media, Kiem and Strix.

“Insight offers opportunities for viewers to interact with the programmes, exploring and experiencing the action further,” the company said in a statement.

“With viewers increasingly watching content on multiple devices, broadcasters and advertisers must continually find new ways to connect with viewers,” said Mariam Zamaray, CEO of TERN.

“In response, Insight goes beyond simple viewer interaction to incentivise and reward audience engagement. By putting viewers at the centre of the action, we believe broadcasters and advertisers now have more opportunities to attract and retain audiences.”

Programming will include original factual entertainment shows such as Spartan X (Strix), On The Run (Zodiak Media), Dracula (Strix), 7 Days (Kiem), and Power &… (Kiem).

“Insight is at the forefront of the UHD movement. We are investing in creative, cost-effective and innovative ways to produce the best UHD content,” Zamaray continued.

“We’re excited about the possibilities that Insight brings. Not only are we giving advertisers more opportunities to engage with audiences, we’re also empowering viewers to shape the programmes they watch.”

The Hilversum-based operation’s management team comprises Qunita Baars (formely of Fox International Channels), Marjolein Duermeijer (previously head of international sales and development, Tuvalu Media) and Natalie Boot (2waytraffic and Sony Pictures Television interactive manager).
