Netflix signs with Vodafone

September 25, 2015 10.47 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Netflix Devices Jul 2014Netflix has reached agreement with Vodafone for distribution in the Italian market. It follows an earlier agreement with Telecom Italia.

The streaming service is expected to go live next month.

The alliance should come as no surprise given that there are already tie-ups between Netflix and Vodafone in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and, again from next month, Spain.

“The deal with Netflix reinforces Vodafone’s strategy of offering distinctive and unique conditions for our customers by applying leading 4G networks and fibre, the best services with the best content,” said Gianluca Corti, commercial director, Vodafone Italy .

Vodafone customers will also be able to pay a subscription to Netflix through their Vodafone contract.

“The agreement with Vodafone to launch Netflix in Italy puts a solid foundation to provide customers with the highest level of Italian content along with excellent service”,said Bill Holmes, head of business development, Netflix.

New research suggests Netflix will reach over 130 million subscribers by 2020.
