The Russian cable operator ER Telekom, which operates under the brand name Dom.ru, has taken delivery of the first batch of set-top boxes manufactured in the country for the company.
By the end of the year it will have obtained 100,000 of the receivers, named Dom.ru TV Mini and produced by Morion in the city of Perm, with the number rising to one million in 2016.
The move is significant in that marks a shift of production of hybrid set-top boxes for operators in Russia and CIS countries by South Korea’s Kaonmedia.
It also follows an agreement signed by ER Telecom, Morion and Kaonmedia at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Production costs of the STBs are expected to total around R4 billion (€54.2 million) over the next three years.
