Deutsche Telekom will transmit the games of the Euroleague in addition to its coverage of the Basketball Bundesliga on its web-TV service for basketball fans in Germany.
The German telco acquired the rights of the most important competition between European basketball clubs initially for the 2015/16 season commencing in mid-October 2015.
All matches with German teams will be shown live in HD quality. The subscription portal Telekom Basketball is available on Telekom’s IPTV platform Entertain and as an OTT service on connected TV sets, tablets, smartphones, laptops and PCs.
“With more than 80,000 customers, Telekom Basketball has met our expectations in the first season,” said Henning Stiegenroth, head of sport marketing at Telekom Deutschland. “We want to continue this success course now and enhance the quality and service of our offering.”
Sports channel Sport1 previously screened the Euroleague matches in Germany. The rights contract signed in 2013 also included the 2015/16 season, but Sport1 decided to waive the option.
