IBC TV goes mobile with EVS and Streambolico

September 13, 2015 12.18 Europe/London By Robert Briel

IBC-TVNEWS-1EVS has enabled IBC TV to launch its first ever live streaming and VoD service available for mobile devices at this year’s IBC2015.

Having powered IBC TV’s video production solutions for the seventh year in a row, EVS’ C-Cast technology is being used in conjunction with streaming specialists Streambolico to deliver multimedia content exclusively to golden pass holders at the show.

IBC TV Live gives viewers a live video streaming channel and on-demand content of recorded keynote presentations and news bulletins from the IBC2015 show floor. It’s available on both iOS and Android devices and can be used when connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot in the VIP Gold Pass Lounge.

The solution which is used to deliver content to the application uses both EVS’ cloud-based C-Cast platform to transport the VoD media and Streambolico’s CrowdWiFi streaming service to stream real-time multicast content over the high-density environment of the trade show. This multimedia delivery is integrated with IBC TV’s existing live production infrastructure which also relies on EVS solutions.

This integrated system uses EVS solutions for content management, quick-turnaround editing, playout and distribution. IPDirector live content management system allows control of ingest feeds, content management and third-party exchange, the XStore central shared storage platform provides high-performance live/near-live storage and a Xedio CleanEdit NLE is used for rough-cut editing and news assembly.

The Xsquare orchestration and transcoding tool and IPLink Adobe plugin are also implemented as part of IBC TV’s live production solution. The integration with Streambolico’s CrowdWiFi Streaming brings the scalability required in high user density scenarios, since it enables live video and VoD delivery to hundreds of users per WiFi hotspot, using just a small fraction of the available bandwidth.

“Having worked with EVS to build a close partnership for a number of years, we know that including C-Cast into our workflow would take the IBC TV news offering to another level,” said Sue Robinson, producer of IBC TV.

“What we do has become such an integral part of the IBC experience and we’re so pleased that it continues to grow.”

“Every year as IBC gets bigger and better, our visitors want more and more,” said Phil White, director of technology and events at IBC.

“Being able to offer this service to everyone at the show is a sign that as audience expectation grows and broadcasters deliver the latest content to consumers, so does Europe’s biggest broadcasting trade show.”

A demonstration of the IBC TV app solution will be on display in the Live Multimedia Distribution Area on the EVS booth (8.B90).
