German cable operator Unitymedia will take regional public channel WDR Fernsehen HD and Christian family channel Bibel TV HD onboard its offering in federal state North-Rhine Westphalia.
In federal state Hessen, regional public channel hr fernsehen HD and Bibel TV HD will be added. The new channels will be transmitted unencrypted.
TV channels in HD quality are key drivers for the transition of analogue cable households to digital reception, according to Unitymedia.
Around 77% of Unitymedia’s customers in its coverage area of federal states North-Rhine Westphalia, Hessen and Baden-Württemberg already receive digital television. The share of digital TV households is therefore higher than the nationwide average which currently amounts to 72.5%, according to the media authorities’ latest digitalisation report.
As the first large German cable operator, Unitymedia commenced the gradual reduction of its analogue TV lineup in July 2015. In return, new digital and HD channels will be added.
