SES signs up new Ultra HD channel

September 10, 2015 09.50 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

TERNThe Netherlands-based company TERN (TV Entertainment Reality Network) has entered into a long-term agreement with SES to launch a new FTA channel, in both HD and Ultra HD, this October.

The channel, known as Insight, will be TERN’s first Ultra HD service and be exclusively available via satellite in Europe on Astra at 19.2 degrees East.

Insight will be a global service, offering a wide range of original programming including documentaries, reality series and factual infotainment, as well as high levels of interactive new formats to enable the immediate sharing of content through social media. It will have reality, entertainment and sports broadcasting aimed at a millennial audience.

Commenting on the upcoming launch of Insight, Mariam Zamaray, CEO at TERN, said: “We are very excited to launch the new channel on SES satellite across Europe. We guarantee a premium experience for our partners and viewers. Our ambition is to broadcast premium programming in an immersive way in Ultra HD. Our aim is to change the way you watch television.”

Ferdinand Kayser, CCO at SES, added: “The new channel that TERN is launching will have outstanding picture quality in Ultra HD and revolutionise the TV viewing experience. 2015 is the year in which Ultra HD has become a reality for TV viewers in Europe, and we are pleased that the first three Ultra HD channels in Europe are broadcast via SES satellites.”

More details about the channel will be announced at a press conference at MIPCOM in Cannes on October 5.
