Romania’s National Audiovisual Council (CNA) has come out against the creation of an audiovisual fund that would levied cable operators 5% of their revenues each year.
Mediafax reports that the regulator took the view that such a fund would be unnecessary as the government had enacted an emergency ordinance in June guaranteeing state broadcasters €15 million in state aid.
Cable operators had argued that the proposed audiovisual fund, the idea for which was proposed by Valentin Jucan, a member of the CNA, would have represented another tax imposed on them.
