French platform Molotov, founded by Pierre Lescure and Jean-David Blanc, aims to raise around €100 million for its planned disruptive TV service.
In addition to streaming live TV channels, Molotov users will be able to watch previously aired episodes, share show excerpts with friends on Facebook or Twitter, and record content for later viewing. According to press reports, deals are in place with all major French broadcasters.
The two founders hope to raise the money during the next few months are aiming to launch the service in the autumn of 2016. Originally, a launch later this year was envisaged following a period of beta testing.
The creators of the new service say search is key for Molotov: “You have a better chance at winning the lottery than turning your TV on and seeing something you’re interested in,” Blanc said at Molotov’s offices in Paris to Bloomberg.
