The offering will contain a linear 24 hour TV channel, a platform for live broadcasts of concerts, operas and festivals and a video-on-demand section. “We will certainly create the largest classical music archive available in the market,” ORF’s financial director Richard Grasl said at the presentation in Vienna.
The service which will be offered for a flat fee of around €20 per month will be accessible through smart TV sets, PCs and laptops, smartphones and tablets (iOS/Android), Apple TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV. There will be a free 30 day trial period.
ORF and Mojto whose company Unitel operates classical music TV channel Classica want to initially market the video portal in German-speaking Europe and worldwide in the long run. Both sides each hold 50% in the venture which is open to further partners.
