Former German TV show host Max Schautzer sticks with his plans to launch a TV channel for senior citizens.
However, distribution costs on conventional platforms emerged as being too high to be covered, the 75-year old told German news agency dpa. “We have therefore decided to commence on a smaller scale and launch on the internet with a collaboration now very firmly taking shape.”
In countries such as the USA, Canada, the Netherlands or Denmark such TV channels would work, stressed Schautzer. The planned topics would include health, travelling, pension, finances or care. “You have to produce differently for older viewers, slow camera moves, not so many short cuts in a row.”
The advertising-supported free-to-air TV channel was scheduled to go on air in 2009, but the launch was postponed several times.
