Positive trends continue at Magyar Telekom

August 6, 2015 10.45 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Magyar TelekomMagyar Telekom ended H1 with a total of 939,168 subscribers to its TV services in Hungary, or 3.6% more than a year earlier.

Growth was strongest in the IPTV sector, with the 466,267 figure being 11.2% up of H1 2014.

On the other hand, the satellite TV figure was down 0.9% year-on-year, to 305,305, while there was an even sharper fall in cable subscribers, 6.4% to 167,596. Blended TV ARPU in H1 was up 5.8%, to HUF3,259 (€10.5), while blended TV market share was 27.4%, compared to 26.3% a year earlier.

Magyar Telekom points out that IPTV and satellite TV revenues increased in Q2 2015 compared to the same quarter last year due to higher ARPU and RPC.

However, it also adds that this increase was partly offset by lower cable TV revenues influenced by the lower customer base primarily due to migration from cable TV to IPTV.

Growth in satellite TV revenues was due to higher subscription fees in Q2 2015 compared to Q2 2014.

In other Magyar Telekom markets, the Macedonian operation ended H1 with 99,638 IPTV customers, up 4.6% on a year earlier, while in Montenegro its counterpart saw its total grow by 2.1% over the same period to 61,686.

Magyar Telekom as a whole had revenues of HUF315,452 million in H1, up 3.9%, while its operating profit fell by 2.2% to HUF40,272 million.
