Ziggo sees churn increased after merger

August 5, 2015 10.38 Europe/London By Robert Briel

ziggo buildingFaced by tough competition and operational challenges new Ziggo has seen its number of RGUs go down by 87,000 during the second quarter.

Ziggo’s total customer base was down by 56,600 4.19 million, resulting in a network penetration of 59.7% of homes passed, an all-time low. The number of analogue TV homes fell by 36,300 to 835,500 at the end of June, and digital TV subscribers were also lower, down by 20,300 from March to 3.35 million.

However, usage of the Horizon box rose by 62,000 to 437,000, and around half a million customers were using the Horizon Go app. Ziggo’s VOD service My Prime, set up as a rival to Netflix, has 200,000 active users. The service is free to people who buy the top-tier products from the cabler.

The number of broadband customers fell by 10,600 to 3.07 million, and telephony subscribers were down by 19,500 to 2.55 million.

ARPU continues to increase 2.0% to €44.52 per month, and the number of services per customer rose to 2.34 on average.

These figures do not yet reflect the impact of the overall increase in subscription fees, which went into effect on July 1.

The operator has embarked on a major marketing campaign offering top-tier bundled services for €34.95 per month for the first six months, including the Horizon set-top.
