The Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim could enter the race to buy Telekom Srbija independently of Telekom Austria, in which he is already the leading shareholder.
Blic reports that such a scenario is possible, given that a binding offer from the Austrian incumbent could prove problematic due to opposition from its other shareholders.
However, Telekom Austria is one of several parties to have already submitted non-binding bids, the deadline for which was August 2.
They include Deutsche Telekom, an unnamed Russian company and a dozen investment funds, four of which are from the US.
At this stage, the Serbian government has yet to determine how much of the state’s share in Telekom Srbija it intends to sell and at what price.
