Planete asks CSA to reconsider application

July 31, 2015 09.47 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The Canal+ group has asked the French media regulator CSA to reconsider its decision on the broadcaster’s request to move Planete+ to free-to-air on DTT.

At the moment, Planete+ is part of a pay offer on the French digital terrestrial TNT network. As there is oittle interest among consumers, Canal+ has been seeking tot o move the channel to as free=-to-air offer.

The CSA, however, has ruled that such a move would have an adverse imact on the other terrestrial; FTA channels and has denied the request.

In June, the French Council of State annulled media authority CSA’s refusal to allow Planete+, LCI and Paris Première to go free-to-air, on procedural grounds.

As a result, the CSA will now reconsider the original request by the Canal+ group.
