Canal+ Group has launched four sports channels aimed specifically at the African continent.
Named Y Sport 1, Y Sport 2, Y Sport 3 and Y Sport 4, they will benefit from the new acquisition of rights to many sports and include coverage of major football tournaments (UEFA Champions League and Europa League, Premier League, Ligue 1, Premier League, Euro 2016 and the centenary of Copa America in 2016), NBA and Eurobasket basketball, IAFF Diamond League athletics, Top 14 rugby, Rolland Garros and Wimbledon tennis, several major golf competitions and Formula 1.
The channels will also show Canal Football Club, Canal Champions Club and Talents d’Afrique.
Alongside the new sports channels, the Canal+, Canal+ Cinema, Canal+ Series and Canal+ Family channels will have their content revamped with more movies and premium series related to the African continent.
This will include 600 new films, mostly exclusive European and US blockbusters, along with African world cinema.
Canal+ Group initially began to enrich its African service this March through the launch of 25 new African and international channels for Novelas TV.
