BBV Deutschland opts for Zattoo IPTV solution

July 16, 2015 20.43 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

ABOX42 TV-Set-with-ZattooGerman fibre-to-the home (FTTH) provider Breitbandversorgung Deutschland (BBV) will launch a comprehensive multiscreen IPTV service for reception on TV sets and mobile devices based on a white label solution from internet TV provider Zattoo.

The IPTV service which will go live this year will be completely hosted and operated by Zattoo.

BBV is the first network operator in Germany taking advantage of the recently signed framework contract between cable operator association Deutsche Netzmarketing GmbH (DNMG) and Zattoo.

“The fast decision of BBV in favour of the IPTV product from Zattoo shows that DNMG has set the right grounds regarding product selection and conditions when selecting a uniform IPTV platform,” said DNMG’s managing director Ingo Schuchert. “The interest in the TV product from Zattoo is enormous among our members, especially cable and fibre-optic network operators.”

The IPTV product will complement the internet and telephony services offered by BBV on its FTTH network enabling customers to receive all communication services from a single source.

“We tap into revenue potentials and are happy to convince even more new customers of our services,” explained Manfred Maschek, managing director of BBV. “One advantage of working with Zattoo is that we can offer the service under our own brand without having to invest in complex and expensive IPTV technologies ourselves.”

Zattoo provides the entire technical platform starting from ingest of signals to encoding and transcoding until the peering of streams into the BBV network. The Swiss company also provides the applications for the IPTV receiver and for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

German set-top-box provider ABOX42 delivers the set-top-box hardware platform, the SDK for development and integration with the Zattoo TV application. This includes live TV as well as additional features such as teletext, HbbTV and third-party services, for example video-on-demand portal maxdome. ABOX42 also provides a lifecycle management solution for updates of the set-top boxes adding new functions and features.

Zattoo’s B2B solutions build on the company’s 10 years of experience as an internet TV provider in the B2C market. As the largest OTT operator in Europe, Zattoo delivers live-streams of TV channels to more than 2 million unique users.

Zattoo has been present in the B2B market for 4 years providing hosted mobile TV and TV everywhere solutions to cable companies and mobile network operators. The hosted multiscreen IPTV solution enables FTTH network operators and telecommunication companies to offer a TV product for stationary TV sets as well as mobile devices.

“The B2B business is a key focus of Zattoo and Germany is one of our most important markets,” explains Gernot Jaeger, chief officer B2B TV solutions at Zattoo. “With BBV Deutschland, we will be able to further establish ourselves as a valued partner of German network operators.”
