The Polish Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) has awarded the national transmission company Emitel a licence to operate what will be the country’s eighth DTT multiplex (MUX-8).
In winning the licence in a tender organised by the UKE, Emitel beat off competition from the public broadcaster TVP, Time and Polski Operator Telewizyjny (POT), a joint venture between Polsat and TVN.
It will now have 24 months to launch the multiplex, which will cover 95% of the population.
MUX-8 will carry up to three channels from TVP (three in SD or one each in SD and HD), along with four SD channels that will be selected in a competition by the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).
