Georgia finally began the switchover to digital terrestrial broadcasting on Wednesday with the switchoff of the analogue signal in the capital Tbilisi, the Georgian National Communications Commission has confirmed.
Around 30 standard definition channels will be broadcast with the process taking just six weeks to complete.
It follows the amendment of the Georgian Broadcasting Act on June 17 this year, which brings with it a simplified licensing process, and the rollout of further local TV services.
One of the advantages of Georgia’s late entry to the part is that broadcasts will be in DVB-T2/MPEG-4 from the start.
