Virgin Media is to commence its £3 billion rollout of ultrafast broadband in Manchester.
The cablenet is investing £75 million in the project that will create 500 new jobs at Virgin Media and its construction partners. An additional 150,000 homes and businesses will enjoy ultrafast broadband speeds of 152 Mbps, taking total coverage of Manchester by Virgin Media to 450,000 premises.
It’s part of Project Lightning, announced in February this year, which will expand the Virgin Media network to an additional 4 million premises.
Consumers and communities are being invited to register their interest at virginmedia.com/cablemystreet. Virgin Media says it expects to connect more premises in neighbouring postal towns prioritised according to demand from consumers and businesses.
Tom Mockridge, Virgin Media Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our message is simple: help us to cable your street. If you want to switch to broadband speeds twice as fast as you can get today, simply register with Virgin Media to ‘cablemystreet’.”
Work on the first 20,000 Manchester homes commences this week.
