Dutch cable opeator Ziggo is to expand its network of WiFi hot spots which gives free wireless access to its customers.
Ziggo will add the hot spots to thousands of cabinets in the streets. The move is aimed to improve free WiFi coverage for its customers across the Ziggo footprint. At the moment, the hot spot networks of the cabler consists of wireless routers in the homes of Ziggo customers that have been enabled for public access.
“Customers who do not want their modem serve as a WiFi spot for others, can disable the function. But with the vast majority of customers, 95%, the feature is enabled,” according to Herman Weerman, product manager Wifi at Ziggo.
