Telekom Austria CEO resigns

June 15, 2015 11.06 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Hannes AmetsreiterHannes Ametsreiter has asked Telekom Austria’s supervisory board for a mutually agreed premature termination of his contract.

It has now been mutually agreed that he will resign as CEO of Telekom Austria, as well as CEO of A1 Telekom Austria, on July 31.

Commenting on the development, Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, chairman of the supervisory board, said: “On behalf of the supervisory board I would like to express our thanks to Hannes Ametsreiter for running the business through quite challenging times, also in the transition phase of Telekom Austria Group becoming an affiliate of América Movíl. His work is also well recognised internationally and the strong market position, which Telekom Austria Group has gained under his guidance, deserves appreciation. The supervisory board will discuss the succession during its next meeting. Personally I wish Hannes Ametsreiter all the best for his private and professional future”.

Ametsreiter added: “It is a great honour that I have been allowed to contribute to shaping two incredibly exciting decades of telecommunications in Austria and CEE. After so many years a farewell is of course hard, but the Telekom Austria Group today is in great shape as a leading convergent communications provider, has great perspectives for growth and two strong core shareholders”.

Ametsreiter joined the mobile business of Telekom Austria 19 years ago and since then held many management positions within the group. He has been CEO of Telekom Austria Group since April 2009 and therefore is the longest serving CEO of the company since its initial public offering.

Under his management, the two separated businesses for fixed and mobile in Austria have been merged to form A1 Telekom Austria.

This successful convergence strategy has been deployed throughout the markets Telekom Austria Group is active in – today six out of eight markets are convergent.
