Canal+ has secured the pay-TV rights to Poland’s premier football league Ekstraklasa for a further three seasons.
According to Wirtualne Media, the DTH platform nc+, on which Canal+ channels are carried, has sublicensed some of the rights to Eurosport 2, which will show two matches – probably those played on Fridays and Mondays – per round of games.
It adds that Andrea Radrizzani, an Italian entrepreneur whose interests include the TV channel 11, which is present in Belgium, Singapore and Malaysia, also contested the rights.
Adrizzani is, in addition, the joint owner of the agency MP&Silva, through which Ekstraklasa sold the rights.
Other contenders for the rights, which Canal+ has now held for 20 years, included Fox International Channels and the public broadcaster TVP.
Talks on the FTA rights for Ekstraklasa are still ongoing.
