ABOX42 provides smart IPTV STB platform for German cable ops

June 8, 2015 14.07 Europe/London By Robert Briel, ANGA COM 2015, Cologne.

ABOX42-STBsGerman cable operator association Deutsche Netzmarketing GmbH (DNMG) and German provider of advanced STB solutions, ABOX42 have agreed on a partnership.

The deal calls for delivery of advanced IPTV Set Top Boxes as part of the recently announced white label IPTV solution to German cable operators.

From now on the members of DNMG can provide to their customers a solution for the first screen based on the M20-Series SmartSTB platform from ABOX42. The ABOX42 Set Top Box platform is fully integrated with the IP based TV solution provided by Zattoo. The news follows an earlier agreement between DNMG and Zattoo, which was announced in April.

The first screen proposition contains a linear TV channel line up, which is delivered over IP in SD and HD quality. In addition the solution contains all well known DVB-features such as DVB-Teletext and Multi Audio. In addition the solution supports PVR function & 2nd screen control including integrated remote programming.

Thanks to the broad compatibility to modern TV services the solution also offers a configurable bouquet of IP based OTT services like HbbTV for the major German broadcast channels and Video On Demand. The HTML based TV application provides a best in class user experience and rich feature set.

The total white label TV solution allows members of DNMG to provide an IP based total TV solution both for the first screen based on the ABOX42 Set Top Box platform and for the second screens.

“Customers can launch their custom TV product with very short project lead times, low project management effort and minimal set up cost, which makes it possible and affordable for almost any operator, city carrier or ISP to deliver a known, modern and compelling Multiscreen TV solution to its customers,” the company said.

“This is an important step and great opportunity also for smaller and medium size operators and city carriers to enter the TV space and to provide triple or quad play offerings to develop their customer base and enrich user experience.”

“It is the first real end-to-end white label Multiscreen TV solution in the market. We made an intensive survey of the entire market and decided for Zattoo and ABOX42, since their solution offers all advanced features we require and has a proven track record in the market”, declared DNMG General Manager Ingo Schuchert.

“We are happy to partner with Zattoo and ABOX42, since both understand the market requirements very well and work in a close cooperation. The ABOX42 Set Top Box platform provides us with the best of linear IPTV and advanced features like HbbTV, which are important for the German market. The M20-Series Set Top Box is not only nicely designed, but also powerful and future proof with its comprehensive software stack and the total Lifecycle Management solution for secure and hassle free upgrades in the field.”

DNMG comprises 185 German network operators serving a total of around 5.5 million households with cable TV, internet and telephony.

„This project is very important for us, since we are able to provide reach the majority of German operators with our solution. We believe in the strong local awareness of the members of DNMG. It is great to see that the total solution can fulfil all operator needs for a modern multiscreen solution and helps the operator to role out an IPTV project without a complex project management process and with minimal internal resources“, said ABOX42 CEO Matthias Greve.
