Discovery Networks Northern Europe today is launching a local Eurosport channel in Denmark on July 1, 2015.
The local sports channel will be called Eurosport Denmark and will replace Canal 8, a general sports channel which was recently acquired by Discovery Communications from C More in Denmark.
Eurosport Denmark will air 2,400 hours of live sports each year, making it the number one channel for live sports coverage in Denmark. Sports events airing on the new channel include the Bundesliga, three Grand Slam tournaments as well as ATP and WTA tennis, the Danish Alka Superlig and the European qualifers.
“Sports has become an increasingly important part of our portfolio as we look for additional ways to build market scale and reach new and bigger audiences,” said Dee Forbes, president and anaging director, Discovery Networks Northern Europe.
“We are committed to investing in our sports business where it makes strategic sense. In May we announced the launch of a local Eurosport channel in Norway, today we announce the launch of Eurosport Denmark, both important milestones in building our sports portfolio and presence across the region.”
Peter Hutton, CEO of Eurosport, added: “The launch of Eurosport Denmark further demonstrates our commitment to invest in the localisation of Eurosport channels to provide a more relevant experience to viewers, with more local rights and personalities, to nourish our passionate sport fans.”
