Special breakfast: energy efficiency in cable networks

June 1, 2015 09.02 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The International Society of Broadband Experts and ANGA COM are hosting an International Breakfast with energy efficiency in cable networks, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and modern home networks on the agenda during this year’s ANGA COM in Cologne.

The breakfast will be held from 9:00 – 10:30 AM CET on Wednesday, June 10 at the Speakers’ Corner in Area 10.1 of the Kölnmesse exhibition centrer. Speakers will include: Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of ISBE and the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers; Prof. Hartwig Tauber, director general of the FTTH Council Europe; and Daniel Howard, ISBE Fellow.

Dzuban will speak about how the ISBE/Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ Energy 2020 program is creating new standards, operational practices and workforce training to help cable reduce by 25 percent a projected four-fold increase in energy costs by the end of the decade; Tauber will address the operational and energy impact of migrations to fiber architectures. Howard will discuss how ISBE, MoCA and CableLabs are working together to resolve potential frequency overlap issues between DOCSIS 3.1 and MoCA in modern home networks.

“The urgency to achieve greater energy efficiency and cost avoidance in our networks and the need to address the growth of home networks underscore how much the needs of cable have changed in just the past few years,” said Dr. Claus Adams, CEO of Adams Consult GmBH & Co. HG and President of the ISBE Central Europe Chapter. “ISBE is leveraging the Society of Telecommunications Engineers’ industry-leading training, certification and standards creation to enable today’s technical workforce to be a major contributor to the industry’s future success.”

The agenda for the International Breakfast will include:
· 9:00 – Welcome and ISBE Update (Daniel Howard, Dr. Claus Adams)
· 9:10 – Energy 2020 Program (Mark Dzuban)
· 9:30 – FTTH Approach in Europe (Prof. Hartwig Tauber)
· 9:50 – MoCA and DOCSIS 3.1 in Home Networks (Daniel Howard)
· 10:10 – Discussion and Close of Meeting
