German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will produce and broadcast the final game of domestic football cup DFB Pokal on May 30, 2015 in Berlin in Ultra HD.
The match between Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund und VFL Wolfsburg will be shown live in more than 15 selected sports bars. The locations will be equipped with Samsung Ultra HD TV sets of the latest generation which contain an integrated Ultra HD tuner.
For the production, 11 Ultra HD cameras will be used including three Sony HDC 4300 cameras in use for the first time. The game will be encoded in real-time with 35Mbps HEVC and 50 frames per second and transmitted encrypted.
The new, high resolution camera system FreeD from Replay Technologies will also debut at the DFB Cup final. It will be used by Sky Deutschland for live football coverage for the first time in Europe.
Sky Deutschland has been transmitting live football matches and concerts in Ultra HD since the end of 2012 to gain experiences with the new format.
