The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has called an indefinite strike from May 16 after failing to resolve a number of disputes with the government, including one over audiovisual rights.
In one section of a statement, published by the local media, it says that had its proposal been heard, they would have resulted in benefits and improvements in Spanish football. In exchange for our cooperation and selfless assistance we have received in response ex lege expropriation of certain basic rights, among others, ownership of audiovisual”.
The latter is understood to refer to a decree law, approved last week, establishing a new system for the marketing and distribution of TV rights.
The strike will result in the suspension of all matches from May 16, including the Spanish Cup Final.
