Viasat is no longer offering Euronews via satellite in Scandinavia and the Baltic States.
Instead, it is now only distributing the channel, formerly on Astra 4A at 4.8 degrees East, via the internet.
Viasat already offers viewers the English language news channels CNN International, BBC World News, NHL World, RT and CNBC.
Commenting on the change to Euronews’ distribution, Jonas Karlén, CEO, Viasat Nordic and Baltic, said: “Viasat has decided to switch from satellite to internet distribution for Euronews as internet technology is maturing. All set-top boxes sold in recent years can receive channels both via satellite and internet and this is a step towards a more modern and cost efficient distribution form without sacrificing quality. Al Jazeera was launched via internet distribution in conjunction with the change for Euronews, giving an even stronger news coverage in English after the change.”
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Euronews and Viasat concluded an agreement for the news channel’s distribution in Scandinavia and the Baltic Republics back in 2010.
