NetCologne expands fibre-optic network

May 4, 2015 10.32 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Jost Hermanns (NetCologne)German cable operator NetCologne has invested more than €30 million into the expansion of its fibre-optic network in 2014.

The Cologne-based company which achieved a turnover of €259.2 million and a profit before tax of €7.7 million last year installed more than 500 kilometers of fibre-optic lines for this purpose.

Of its 384,000 fixed-line customers, 164,000 were already served by its own fibre-optic network at the end of 2014 – a growth by 15,000 in 12 months. In total, around 57,000 buildings are connected to NetCologne’s fibre-optic network (2013: 56,500).

“The demand for fast internet access constantly increases through services such as YouTube or maxdome. High bandwidths are particularly required in families in which laptops, tablets and smartphones are connected to the network at the same time,” said NetCologne CEO Jost Hermanns (pictured). “This is also reflected by the growing customer figures of our own fibre-optic network and affirms our strategy to continue investing into the expansion of our networks.”
