AirTies Wireless Networks, a provider of wireless and OTT/IPTV technologies, supplies wireless connector SC201 to Sky Deutschland giving the German pay-TV broadcaster’s subscribers the opportunity to stream content from on-demand service Sky Anytime to the Sky+ HD set-top-box over Wi-Fi.
The announcement made at TV Connect 2015 in London follows similar solutions AirTies implemented at Sky UK and Sky Italia.
Sky Deutschland launched Sky Anytime in August 2011, giving subscribers on demand access to selecteäd movies, TV series, entertainment and sports programmes. The content is automatically pushed to the hard disk of the customer’s set-top-box overnight via cable or satellite.
In December 2014, Sky Deutschland added internet streaming to Sky Anytime, enabling up to six times more content than before. However, as the connection of the Sky+ HD PVR to the customer’s broadband router by Ethernet cable is often inconvenient, Sky Deutschland wanted to provide a wireless option.
The connector SC201 developed by AirTies sets up a wireless connection between the set-top-box and the broadband router, eliminating the need for an Ethernet line or other wired links.
