The Slovak public broadcaster RTVS has begun HD satellite transmissions of its two channels Jednotka and Dvojka.
Starting from today (April 15), they are available in the Astra satellite, while SD transmissions of the two channels will end in 2017.
By changing formats, the broadcaster will expect to save up to €370,000 a year.
RTVS says that after several short-term and temporary solutions, it now has a stable and lasting one with Astra.
It will pay for distribution up to 2017, will the transmission company Towercom will cover the cost of HD distribution over that period.
RTVS’s current contract for broadcasting SD channels runs out at the end of 2016.
As Towercom has waived a termination fee due to the company’s cooperation in broadcasting HD channels, the broadcaster will save nearly €1.3 million.
