German telco Deutsche Telekom has made its basketball TV channel available on regular TV sets.
Viewers require HDMI stick Google Chromecast and Telekom’s TV app to receive the OTT service. Apps for streaming box Amazon Fire TV and connected TV sets will follow.
The TV apps will enable subscribers to watch the basketball channel on their large flat-screen TV set in addition to PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones. For TV reception, Telekom previously only offered its basketball channel to the customers of its IPTV platform Entertain.
Telecom secured the TV rights of Germany’s domestic Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) in 2014 and has been showing all games live on its basketball channel since the beginning of the current season.
The fee-based service has so far attracted around 60,000 subscribers.
