Fox International Channels has decided not to bid for the lucrative TV rights to Poland’s premier football league Ekstraklasa.
Quoting Gazeta Wyborcza, Press.pl reports that as a result their current holder, the DTH platform nc+, will not have to face what would have been a serious contender for the rights.
The current rights end this June and Fox was expected to bid for the following six seasons.
Also under discussion was believed to be the launch of a new football channel, in cooperation with Ekstraklasa.
Negotiations concerning the rights, valued at PLN150 million (€36.9 million) a year, are undertaken by the intermediary MP & Silva.
They are current held by nc+ (TV) and Ringier Axel Springer (internet).
