The leading Czech broadcaster TV Nova is preparing to take legal action against cable, satellite and IPTV operators in neighbouring Slovakia that distribute Nova channels without its consent.
Speaking to RadioTV and quoted by Parabola, Anna Sucha, a spokesperson for Nova, said that such distribution is seen as illegal both by itself and the licensors of foreign content.
She added that it also impacted negatively on the advertising revenues of its sister station TV Markiza.
Both TV Nova and TV Markiza are owned by Central European Media Enterprises (CME), which also has broadcast interests in Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia.
