Spanish incumbent Telefonica is launching its STB-less Movistar TV service on Samsung smart TVs on Monday, March 16.
With the Movistar TV Ready app integrated in Samsung smart TV, customers will have the complete experience of the telecom operator’s IPTV service, only without a set-top box.
The OTT service is available to all people with a Samsung smart TV set, a Movistar TV subscription and a proper broadband connection.
In a statement, Roberto Campo, director for services development at Telefónica, said that “this is the result of many months working together from Telefónica and Samsung’s innovation departments, achieving the complete integration of set-to box features inside a smart TV.”
The service is compatible with all Samsung TV sets manufactured in 2014, as well as with the 2015 series.Some models compatible with Movistar TV Ready are: H5600, H5610, H5 500, H5510, H5570, H6200, H6240, H6400, H6410, H6470, H6500, H6640, H6850, and H7000.
Telefónica has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for its Movistar TV product.
