HbbTV reaches breakthrough in Germany

HbbTV Markt Deutschland 2014 (Deutsche TV-Plattform)HbbTV has established itself in Germany: 92% of the connected TV sets sold in 2014 were compliant with the interactive multimedia standard, corresponding with 4.2 million devices, according to the latest figures released by industry association Deutsche TV-Plattform based on market data from GfK Retail & Technology.

60% of the TV sets sold in Germany in 2014 – 4.8 million devices – were connected TV sets (Smart TV).

In total, 14.7 million HbbTV-compliant reception devices were sold in Germany since 2008 (see chart). Besides TV sets, the figure includes set-top-boxes, DVD players and Blu-ray players.
