ProSiebenSat.1 launches TV overlay ads via HbbTV

February 27, 2015 11.02 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Switch-In-Enie-backtGerman commercial TV group ProSiebenSat.1 has started offering advertisers the possibility to place overlay banners covering part of the screen of linear TV channels through an HbbTV-based solution.

The overlay banner is automatically shown for 10 seconds in the right bottom corner of the TV screen on HbbTV-compliant connected TV sets when a viewer changes channels and moves to one of ProSiebenSat.1’s channels: Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins or sixx.

The feature called SwitchIn was used for the first time to promote the movie The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (see image).

Through the red button, viewers can access a microsite accompanying the ad. In the case of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, a trailer of the Studiocanal film was shown in full screen mode when pressing the red button.

“With SwitchIn, we open a new digital door to the TV screen for our advertising customers,” said Thomas Wagner, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1’s advertising sales subsidiary SevenOne Media. “The channel switching process will activate all connected Smart TV sets and make them addressable for our advertisers – in the case of ProSieben, that’s more than 10 million reachable devices each month.”
