TV figures boost Magyar Telekom

February 25, 2015 23.05 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Magyar Telekom HQMagyar Telekom’s TV subscriber base in its home market grew by 4.2% in 2014, ending the year at 924,628.

The best performing sector was IPTV, with the 445,044 total being 14.2% up on a year earlier. By contrast, both DTH (306,627, -0.2%) and cable (172,957, -9.4%) were lower than at the end of 2013. Meanwhile, blended ARPU amounted to HUF3,155 (€10.3), up 0.5% year-on-year.

TV revenues in Q4 were HUF8,763 million, or 6% more than the same period in 2013.

Although IPTV and DTH revenues in Q4 were higher than a year earlier, this was partly offset by lower cable TV revenues due to a lower base as customers migrated to IPTV. DTH revenues were up year-on-year due to higher subscription fees.

In Macedonia, TV revenues in Q4 were, at HUF781 million, 36.8% higher than a year earlier. The number of IPTV customers increased by 12%, from 87,686 to 98,216.

In Montenegro, TV revenues in Q4 amounted to HUF576 million, or 10.5% more than a year earlier. The IPTV customer total at year’s end was 61,127 (+3.3%).

Magyar Telekom as a whole had revenues of HUF165,741 million in Q4, 0.3% lower than a year earlier. EBITDA was HUF41,862 million (+8%).The profit for Q4 was, at HUF2,650 million, over double the total of HUF1,245 million a year earlier.

In summarising the results, Christopher Mattheisen, the company’s CEO, said it had reached some very important milestones in 2014, including becoming the number provider in the pay-TV market.
