Netflix plans to launch in Russia despite sanctions imposed on the country. Furthermore, it expects to make its debut in the Czech Republic and Slovakia no later than next year.
Quoting Joris Evers, VP, head of communications for Europe at Netflix, Gazeta reports that although the streaming service is not yet in Russia, it will be so within the next two years.
Speaking at Panasonic Convention 2015, held in Frankfurt, he added the fact that Netflix had yet to enter the Russian market was not linked to sanctions and the political situation.
Joris also refused to discuss what programming that Netflix may offer viewers in Russia.
Russia already has one of the most developed and indeed competitive on demand markets in the CEE region.
This, believes Broadband TV News, is one of the main reasons it has so far failed to launch in the country.
Separately, Netflix head of communication Cliff Edwards has told local media that the service will launch in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia no later than next year.
