The DVB has announced plans to foster a Patent Pool for DVB-S2X.
The series of extensions to the established around the established DVB-S2 is designed as a Second generation framing structure, channel coding and modulation systems for Broadcasting, Interactive Services, News Gathering and other broadband satellite applications
A meeting of potential patent holders will be staged during this year’s DVB World conference, in Copenhagen during March.
The new enhanced specification, known as DVB-S2X, offers efficiency gains for professional applications by up to 20 -30% and for some scenarios, with the DVB optimistic that gains of up to 50% can be achieved in some scenarios.
DVB-S2X provides more choices for roll-off factors as well as additional modulation and Forward Error Correction (FEC) options that allow for the more efficient use of satellite transmission channels.
