FC Barcelona’s board of directors has agreed to sell their audiovisual rights to Telefónica de Contenidos for the 2015/16 season.
In a statement, the Catalan football club says that the agreement, which is included the telco’s global TV and content strategy, follows a long period of contact and negotiations with operators from all over the world.
It adds by thanking Mediapro, which has held the TV rights for a number of years.
FC Barcelona has also ceded the exploitation of the club’s TV channel FC Barça to Telefónica de Contenidos.
This has come with a firm commitment to maintain the current format of the channel and promote then content that makes it unique.
FC Barcelona’s board of directors has also signed three-year agreement with Telefónica for the next three years as a regional partner in Latin America, including Mexico.
The telco will activate sponsorship agreements in the region with its brands Movista and Vivo.
FC Barcelona’s cooperation with Telefónica dates back to 2003.
