Samsung is warning customers who bought its smart TV sets not to say personal information outloud if they use voice control.
The warning came in response to an article in The Daily Beast called Your Samsung SmartTV Is Spying on You, Basically, which outlines how smart TV sets listen to any conversation in front of the TV and may share that information with Samsung or third parties.
“Please be aware that if your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party,” Samsung writes in its privacy statement.
Following the revealing of the ‘spying’ on people’s conversations, Samsung issued a statement that the voice command functionality is activated using the remote control and owners can chose to disable it.
