Germany’s largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland has chosen an OTT TV solution from US video technology platform provider Kaltura for its TV streaming app.
The first stage of the multiscreen TV service launched in December 2014 enables live TV for the iPad and iPhone from Apple (iOS). The lineup comprises more than 50 free-to-air TV channels such as ARD, ZDF, Sat.1, ProSieben, Tele 5, DMAX and Disney Channel. The distribution to the handheld devices is through the customer’s local Wi-Fi network.
The TV app is free of charge for customers subscribing to both TV and internet from Kabel Deutschland. Additional features and platforms such as Android will be added in the next months.
Besides live TV streaming, Kaltura’s end-to-end solution covers on-demand TV, catch-up TV and network PVR-hosted content. The solution also contains monetisation tools, household and device management, social interactivity, discovery tools and personalisation features.
“Kaltura OTT TV, now integrated with the Tvinci technology, is the most advanced solution in the marketplace,” Ron Yekutiel, Kaltura’s co-founder, chairman and CEO, said in New York. “We are excited to partner with Kabel Deutschland and to jointly push TV innovation to new levels around the globe.”
