DRF1 – Deutsches Regional Fernsehen, a new commercial broadcaster offering local news and information from Germany’s 16 federal states, will launch on February 9, 2015 at 18.00 CET.
The advertising-financed 24 hour service will provide reports from the areas of politics, economy, culture, sports and society every 15 minutes. The content is both from other regional channels DRF1 collaborates with and from freelance contributors.
The free-to-air channel will be available on the cable network of Kabel Deutschland as an unencrypted digital service without additional charge for cable customers. The DRF1 website will also offer a live-stream.
The channel is operated by TV executives Christian Opitz and Normann Schneider who also run TV-Mittelrhein and wwtv, two local TV channels in federal state Rhineland-Palatinate.
