Liberty Global’s cable companies across Europe are raising their prices – in Belgium this has led to massive consumer protests.
In the Netherlands, Liberty Global is now in the process of integrating Ziggo and UPC into one entity and has announced it will raise Ziggo’s broadband subscriptions up to between 1.5% and 6.4% on March 1. All-in-one packs will cost between 1.5 and 2,2% more, whole internet and TV packs pricing rises between 4.3 and 6.4%
In Belgium, Telenet has raised its prices, up tp 5% more for most of its products, while in Germany Unitymedia KabelBW is adding EUR2.90 to the average monthly bill.
In the UK Virgin is putting up it landline and bundle charges by between £1 and £4.50 a month. The cable firm said its landline charge would rise by £1 a month to £16.99 from February 1.
And in Ireland, UPC hits customers with price increases of more than 10%. This latest price rises follow hike of up to 14 % announced at the end of January last year.
A special campaign among Belgian consumers attracted 121,729 consumers in the weeks before Christmas. They protested against price hikes of all telecom operators in the country, not just Telenet, but also Belgacom. A separate action page, iklaatmenietpluimen.be attracted over 75,000 signatories.
