Online retailer Amazon has commenced providing selected movies and series in Ultra HD/4K resolution on its video-on-demand (VOD) service Amazon Instant Video in Germany, an Amazon spokesman confirmed to Broadband TV News.
Only a limited Ultra HD selection was, however, currently available in Germany with all titles being in English language, said the spokesman. “We constantly work on continuing to expand the choice to offer customers more titles in Ultra HD. For example, all Amazon original series launching in 2015 will be available in Ultra HD.”
The customers can watch the movies and series on compatible Ultra HD connected TV sets with the Amazon Instant Video app and an internet data rate of at least 15Mbps. The available titles are shown in the category In Ultra HD ansehen (Watch in Ultra HD) on the Amazon Instant Video launch page.
Movies and series offered in Ultra HD also carry an UHD or Ultra HD banner as well as purchase options in the video details. The app is currently supported by Ultra HD TV sets from Samsung, LG and Sony (2014 models).
After Netflix and Wuaki.tv, Amazon is the third VOD provider to offer Ultra HD content in Germany.
