The Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) have decided to ban some of the programmes carried by the Russian channel Ren TV Baltic for a period of three months.
According to the regulator, the move follows an analysis by independent experts and the Inspector of Journalist Ethics that found some programmes on the channel reported in a biased way about developments in Ukraine, “inciting war and hatred for Ukrainians and the legitimate government of Ukraine, Ukrainian sovereignty and integrity of the support of the EU and NATO countries”.
The decision will come into effect after it has been authorised by the Vilnius Regional Court.
As previously reported in Broadband TV News, Edmund Vaitiekunas, the head of the LRTK, said earlier this week that two other Russian channels – RTR Planeta and NTV Mir Lithuania ¬– could be banned for up to a year.
